Permanent Endowment Funds - Advised Endowment

The Fund Advisor (one or more persons or an advisory committee) recommends grants from an advised fund to charitable organizations or projects.

Individuals, families, and businesses may be interested in a Advised Endowment when they:

  • Wish to create a perpetual named fund to honor or memorialize an individual, family, or business;
  • Considered creating a family or business “foundation,” but want to avoid the costs, regulations, minimum distribution rules, excise taxes, and administrative costs of private foundations;
  • Want to be able to vary the charities they support as years go by;
  • Want to involve succeeding generations of the family or business;
  • Want to make large charitable gifts before the end of the tax year, but need time to explore or clarify their philanthropic dreams or the best ways to accomplish them with no requirements as to the amount or timing of distributions from the fund;
  • Want to make contributions to a charitable holding account and later transfer those contributions to other funds held by the Foundation or directly to charities;
  • Want to consider requests for funding made to the Community Foundation in their particular areas of interest and to benefit from the counsel of Foundation staff regarding current charitable needs and programs.
