Funds may be established to provide scholarships so that
deserving students may pursue the education they desire. Scholarship funds
may be created
for specific fields of study, for graduates of specific schools, for
use at specific educational institutions, in recognition of achievement,
and
for financial need.
Individuals, families, and businesses may be interested in a Scholarship Fund when they:
- Wish to create a named fund to honor or memorialize an individual, family
or business;
- Wish to create a fund to make scholarship awards meeting certain criteria,
for example: specific school(s); particular geographic area(s); studying
specific course(s) of study; attending specific educational institution(s);
demonstrated financial need; specified academic or other achievements;
demonstrated talents or abilities.
- Wish to create a fund to make grants or awards to benefit students for
enrichment purposes or to position students to be successful in post-secondary
education.
- Want the continued involvement of the staff of the Foundation to handle
the administrative responsibilities of the scholarship fund;
- Want to maximize the value of the scholarship awards by taking advantage
of the Foundation's historic earnings and growth of endowments with
low administrative costs.
The Kosciusko County Community
Foundation, Inc. Scholarship Endowments
include:
American Association of University Women Scholarship Fund
Established by AAUW's Warsaw branch to provide scholarships to non-traditional female students residing in Kosciusko County who have completed at least 15 credit hours at a Kosciusko County institute of higher education.
Fred and Nedra Beebe Scholarship Endowment
Established by Nedra Beebe to assist qualified students in attaining a post secondary education.
Provides scholarships or loans to worthy high school graduates who
need financial assistance to obtain higher education.
The Everett and Fern Besson Memorial Scholarship Fund
Established by Thomas and Janet Tucker and Judy Bowerman in memory of their parents, Everett and Fern Besson. This scholarship shall provide financial assistance to students who are pursuing a degree in agriculture.
Created in memory of Ben Bibler who won the Most Inspirational Award
from Body for LIFE after his death. It is awarded to a Kosciusko County
resident
who has overcome obstacles and is pursuing higher education.
Mike Bott touched many lives during his 35 years of dedicated teaching
and coaching in the Warsaw School system. When he died unexpectedly
in 2003, his family wished to continue Mike's teaching legacy by establishing
the
Bott Science Scholarship through the Kosciusko County Community Foundation.
Many friends, colleagues and community members contributed to the fund,
which awarded its first scholarships in the spring of 2004.
Awards scholarships to worthy high school graduates who are in need
of financial assistance to enable them to obtain higher education or
training.
Established by the Warsaw Breakfast Optimists to fulfill their mission “Friend
to Youth.” The scholarships are awarded to Warsaw area students.
Created in memory of Bob Brennan, a local pharmacist and community
leader by his wife, Sue Brennan. Awards are presented to Warsaw
High School seniors and past recipients
pursuing a career in music or pharmacy.
Created by the Shoop Sports and Youth Foundation in memory of their
founder J. Homer Shoop to provide scholarships to needy and
deserving graduates
from Wawasee, Whitko or Warsaw High Schools.
Carlson Family Education Fund
Neal and Joy Carlson established this fund to provide financial assistance to students who are in their junior or senior year of college, seeking degrees in elementary education or special education.
Endows the Chinworth Award, presented annually to a Warsaw senior
who, by vote of school faculty, has made the most of his or
her opportunities. The award was established in 1963 by Mr.
Chinworth, a long-tenured
Warsaw
community and business leader, and perpetuated by Mrs. Chinworth,
an accomplished artist and musician.
The Parent Teacher Council of Claypool School established this
scholarship to provide assistance to worthy and needy students
who reside in
Clay Township in Kosciusko County and who have graduated from
Warsaw Community
High School
.
Community Scholarship Enhancement Fund
Created with money remaining from Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship funds for the purpose of promoting scholarships and higher education in Kosciusko County, Indiana.
Established by Alice Lykins in memory of her nephew, Don Craw.
Don taught Spanish in the Tippecanoe Valley School System.
Scholarship awards will
benefit students from Tippeancoe Valley.
The initial gifts to this scholarship fund were given by
DePuy employees and friends in memory of long-time DePuy
employee, Trudy Bradford.
Income from this fund will help the children or step-children
of DePuy employees
reach their educational dreams.
Provides scholarships to students studying at Bethel College
in Mishawaka.
Established by Larry and Anne Easterday in memory of their
daughter Megan. Many community members helped fund the endowment,
which
provides scholarships
to qualified graduating seniors who attended Harrison Elementary
School.
Provides scholarships to needy and deserving adults and
other students who need financial assistance to gain education
beyond
high school.
This scholarship fund was created by family and friends
of William Farrar in his memory. Mr. Farrar served as
a principal in the
Warsaw school
system. His love of learning will live on through this
fund in his name.
Resulted from a charitable remainder trust in which
Ralph Frantz provided his sister, Lucetta, with a life
income.
At her death,
the Foundation
received the remainder interest to be used for scholarships
to Kosciusko County residents.
Established by Mrs. Frauhiger’s family to award an annual scholarship
in her memory to a Warsaw Community High School graduating
senior.
This endowment fund was established by many donors in
honor of Lance Cpl. David Fribley, who died serving
his country in Iraq on
March
23, 2003. The
fund will provide scholarships to county students
who are
pursuing education beyond high school.
A result of a testamentary bequest from this well-known
family, earnings are awarded annually through scholarships.
Created by Anabelle Gasaway in tribute to her husband
Dr. W.A. Gasaway, a dentist in Warsaw. This fund
aids area students
in
obtaining a
higher education, and was transferred to the Foundation
in 2000.
Established by Jean M. and Merl M. Gibson for the
purpose of providing post-secondary, undergraduate
scholarship assistance to deserving
students who are residents of Kosciusko County.
Florence Gilliam Clark created this scholarship
fund in tribute to her parents, Robert and Emma
Gilliam to aid area students
in obtaining a
higher education. The fund was transferred to
the Foundation in 2001.
Established by Helen L. Griffith through a bequest
in her will in memory of her father, Chauncey,
to provide scholarships to
area students.
Provides scholarships to needy adults returning
to higher education and other deserving students
who could not
otherwise avail themselves
of education
beyond high school.
Brady Houck Scholarship Fund
Established in memory of Brady Houck by many friends and family members. Brady was a senior at Warsaw Community High School when he died tragically in a car accident.
Established to provide scholarships to Warsaw
Community High School students who participated
as a senior
member of the
Warsaw Community
High School Band
or Color Guard.
As a Tippecanoe Valley High School secretary
for Principal, Charlie Mills, Kay Kindig was
well liked and respected.
When she died
after a battle with
cancer, Principal Mills and other friends
and loved ones created this scholarship fund
in her name. The fund will provide scholarship
assistance to needy
and
deserving students
who are graduates of TVHS.
The Kosciusko 21st Century Foundation established
this endowment fund to provide scholarship
assistance to
students who are
pursuing a field
of study in nursing, occupational therapy,
physical therapy, as a radiology technician
or a medical
technician. Eligible
students must be Kosciusko
County
residents who are over the age of 23, have
been accepted for enrollment
in a post secondary school in Northern Indiana;
have been employed for more
than one year and who continue to be employed
in the health care industry in Kosciusko County.
The daughter of a local doctor left the remainder
of her estate to enable recipients to continue
their educational
careers.
Created by Mrs. Lewis in memory of her husband
to provide scholarship loans to students

practical nurses.
Provides support to the Church of Christ
of Etna Green Scholarship Endowment Fund.
This fund was established by Maria Oler
in memory of her parents, Felipe and Azucena
Lopez. This
fund will provide scholarship assistance

needy and deserving students who are pursuing
a post-secondary education at an
accredited college, university or technical
school with
preference
given to students pursuing degrees in
Spanish education, translation, medical
studies or other human services.
Established by Margaret Mason in memory
of her husband, Harold Mason, to fund
scholarships for the educational
expenses of
qualified, worthy, and needy students
who are
graduating or have already
graduated
from
Lakeland Christian Academy, to aid and
assist such students to obtain college
degrees in a Medical field or Foreign Missionary
service.
Established in 2004 by the nephew of Paul
and Magdalene Miller, in their memory.
Paul and Magdalene were
lifelong teachers, and Paul was
a devoted
Kiwanian. Members of the Warsaw Kiwanis
Club provided early support of scholarships
in
Paul
Miller’s memory and they will continue
to serve as the selection committee for
this scholarship, which will provide
tuition assistance to
young men and women who intend to enter
the field of education to become professional
teachers or instructors.
Established in 2004 from the Estate of
Marjorie Morton in memory of Marjorie’s
son, Rob Morton. The purpose of the fund
is to provide scholarships to needy and deserving
students who are residents of Kosciusko County
and who have
graduated from a high school that serves
Kosciusko County .
Created by Dr. Samuel C. Murphy many
years ago to assist worthy and ambitious
students in their need for
higher
education. Dr.
Murphy practiced
medicine in Claypool, then in Warsaw
in 1914.
The
fund was transferred to the Foundation
in 2001.
During the lifetimes of Robert and Colleen
Nichols, they funded scholarships
through Madison School’s Parent-Teacher Organization in memory
of their son Lenny. Colleen made a
bequest to continue this program after her death.
Established by Bruce and Janet Petro,
in honor of Bruce’s mother,
Dortha Petro to fund scholarships to
pay tuition and educational expenses
of worthy
and needy students who intend to pursue
teaching as a career. Dortha Petro
was a school teacher in Randolph County,
so first preference
will be given
to students graduating from Monroe
Central School system in Randolph
County.

this fund to honor Lyn Sasso’s
memory. Scholarship awards are given

scholarship fund possible, which
is awarded annually
to a senior from Warsaw Community
High School.
Established by Mrs. Vandermark to
provide scholarship assistance
to graduates of local high schools
in Kosciusko County.
Students must be
enrolled in medical
training.
Ms. Vandeveer attained degrees
from both Manchester College
and Ohio
University in Athens Ohio
where she graduated seventh
in her class. She was a grade
school teacher for more than
35 years. This Endowment will help
numerous students from Milford
obtain higher
education
and become teachers.
Established by Thomas R. and
Anne Marie Walter to assist
students in obtaining education at accredited
colleges and universities.
Both Tom
and Anne were
very community-minded, participating
in many
community activities including
Warsaw Presbyterian Church
and Warsaw Rotary Club.
For many years they
owned Walter Drug Store. The
fund
was
transferred to the Foundation
in 2000.
Carl N. Wendel Scholarship Fund
Created by Carl Wendel as part of his estate planning to help Kosciusko County residents, with a preference given to those who are pursuing education or training to become a diesel mechanic, auto mechanic, motorcycle mechanic, small engine mechanic and/or auto repair service manager.
Established in memory of Steven
and Jane Wilson-Rhodes.
The scholarship is granted
to students graduating
from Wawasee High School
who will attend Indiana University at Bloomington.
