Board Bank to Aid Nonprofits Seeking New Board Members

The Community Foundation’s survey of local nonprofits identified that recruiting and retaining effective board members is a major challenge for them. And, area business people, up and coming leaders and employees concerned about community are all looking for opportunities to connect with a cause and help build a better place to live and work.

A grant to Harvest with a Heart in Milford will help expand a community garden providing affordable produce to needy families and benefit local help agencies.

Grants from Community Funds Reflect Economy

Human services projects led the pack in grants approved from Community/Unrestricted Funds at this month’s board meeting. Of the nearly $133,000 in grants approved, 60% of them fell directly into the human services category, and several others classified human services as a sub-category.

Housing Opportunities of Warsaw is one of 19 agencies which are currently participating in the Agency Endowment Challenge.

Six More Spots Left in Agency Endowment Challenge

Area nonprofit agencies have risen to the challenge, the endowment challenge that is. The Community Foundation issued an agency endowment challenge, effective January 1-June 30, 2009 to nonprofit agencies located in or serving Kosciusko County. For every $1 raised by the agency, up to $4,000, the Community Foundation will match with a $1.50.
