The Bank Is Open!
Board Bank to Aid Nonprofits Seeking New Board Members

One bank that’s sure to stimulate the nonprofit economy is our Board Bank.

The Community Foundation’s survey of local nonprofits identified that recruiting and retaining effective board members is a major challenge for them.  And, area business people, up and coming leaders and employees concerned about community are all looking for opportunities to connect with a cause and help build a better place to live and work.  Now, the Community Foundation is pleased and proud to announce a new program to assist with this important work:  The Nonprofit Board Bank.

At the 1st Annual "Get On Board!" event, hosted by the Community Foundation, over 55 of the best and brightest from area companies filled out a Time and Talent Survey. These surveys were then input into a database, housed at the Foundation, which is available to all area nonprofits seeking talented, committed leadership help for their agencies.

When area nonprofits are in need of new board members, they can contact the Community Foundation, which will forward information about possible candidates to them, based on criteria that the nonprofits are seeking. For example, they might need someone with financial experience or they may be looking for someone from a particular geographic area of the county to balance their board membership. The key is that these individuals will already have expressed a passion for the mission that agency is working to fulfill.  How do we know?  Because they said so when they filled out the survey!

The Board Bank can also help interested folks with time and talent to find an organization with a mission that matches their passion, and help them become involved as a volunteer board member with that organization.  The Board Bank will be a very valuable tool for the community by helping to build social capital and facilitate communication and networking opportunities.

If your nonprofit agency is in need of new board members, call the Community Foundation, at 574-267-1901, or e-mail brenda@kcfoundation.org.

If you are interested in serving on the board of a nonprofit, click here to fill out a Time and Talent Survey Form, and become a part of the Board Bank.

Watch for upcoming news regarding the 2nd Annual "Get on Board!" event, which will happen in September at Rodeheaver Auditorium in Winona Lake!!  The goal of “Get On Board!” is to bring talented, interested, competent people together with vibrant organizations with missions and visions that make a difference.  The community benefits greatly when area businesses encourage their employees to share their leadership, education and training, marketing and public relations experience through community service.  “Get On Board!” and take your community leadership to the next level! Come see where YOU can make a difference!
