Scholarships

Jefferson Hankins
Jefferson Hankins graduated from Warsaw Community High School in 2000. He was able to attend his college of choice, Manchester College, thanks to scholarships from the Community Foundation. Jefferson is now employed by National City Bank and is giving back to his community through non-profit involvement, including serving on one of our scholarship committees.

The Community Foundation has more than 80 scholarship funds available, from which we awarded more than $514,000 in 2010-2011..

Scholarships can be used for tuition, books and academic fees, but not for room and board. Scholarship payments made for room and board are taxable to the recipient. Click here to access the IRS website for more information.

How the Community Foundation Determines Financial Need

The majority of our scholarships require financial need as an eligibility factor. This requirement is based on the donor’s wishes at the time they established the scholarship fund.

The Community Foundation uses the Expected Family Contribution (EFC) number issued to you through your Student Aid Report after you have applied for FAFSA to determine financial need. We calculate the cost of college attendance for one year minus your EFC number. If there is a balance remaining after that calculation, we recognize you as having need. Please see the example below.

Example:

COST OF COLLEGE ATTENDANCE FOR ONE YEAR $18,000
(-) EFC NUMBER $  9,500
REMAINING NEED $  8,500
