David L. Howett Memorial Scholarship

David L. Howett (April 3, 1940 – August 2, 2020) was a remarkable man of faith, a caring teacher, and a devoted husband and father who truly lived his life according to his life verse I Peter 5:7 “Casting all your cares upon Him for He careth for you.” He and his wife, Charlotte, were married for nearly 56 years and raised four children together.

A 1958 graduate of Dallastown High School, David enlisted in the United States Air Force where he was the chief cook for the officers until honorably discharged in 1962. He graduated from Grand Rapids School of Bible and Music in 1966 and Grace College in 1969. He further pursued his master’s and received his degree from the University of Saint Francis.

A well-respected teacher by his students, David’s passion for teaching at Warsaw Community Schools for over 30 years went well beyond the classroom during his tenure. He thoroughly enjoyed being a scorekeeper at basketball games and working in the concession stands during football games.

To keep David’s memory alive, the Warsaw Community High School Class of 1973 created this memorial scholarship to honor the year he received the Teacher of the Year award. This scholarship will provide educational scholarships for students as he will forever be remembered for his selfless dedication for this community.
