Planning For The Future Important To Deardorffs

While it was originally Kevin’s career that brought them to the community, Kosciusko County has become home for Kevin and Amy Deardorff. They moved to the area from Fulton County after Kevin joined Lake City Bank in 1990. Kevin and Amy live on a small farm and raise dairy heifers with Kevin’s nephew, Derrick. Their two children, Mallory and Alex, were both raised in Kosciusko County. Mallory lives with her husband, Luke, in Lafayette and is an attorney, currently clerking for a Federal judge in Indianapolis. Alex graduated from IU and served as a military policeman in the U. S. Army. He has resumed his education and lives in Chicago.

Kevin has worked hard over the years to build his career in banking. After receiving his Associates degree from Purdue University, he was offered a position at his hometown bank in Akron. “The President and owner of the Akron Bank was one of the most influential people in my life,” Kevin stated. “He hired me as a 20-year-old when I wasn’t sure exactly what direction I wanted to take in life, and he served as an excellent mentor and life-long friend.”

The bank in Akron offered to pay for the rest of his education, so Kevin completed his Bachelor’s degree through IU-Kokomo while working. Later in his career, he completed the Graduate School of Banking at the University of Wisconsin, as well as their post-graduate course. Now, Kevin has been involved in Retail Banking with Lake City Bank since his hire in 1990 and is currently serving as an Executive Vice-President.

Amy grew up in North Manchester and graduated from Manchester High School. She obtained her degree from Indiana University – School of Business with a marketing major and worked for TruGreen for 12 years in the Indianapolis Regional Office. In 2001, Amy started working for Wetzel Insurance Agency. She is currently working there part-time as a Commercial Account Assistant.

In addition to building their careers, Kevin and Amy have been involved in the community by volunteering with numerous nonprofit organizations. Amy is an active member of Tri Kappa and served as Vice President and chaired several fundraising events. She reviews scholarships for the Community Foundation. Amy also volunteers with a local fundraiser for the CureJM Foundation and has helped with their National Convention for several years. Kevin is a coalition member for Launchpad, a former board member for Cardinal Services and United Way, a member of Orthoworx Advisory Board and a member and past President of Rotary.

Kevin is also a current board member and chair of Finance and Investment committees for the Community Foundation. “I’m fortunate that my job allows me the time, and actually has the expectation, for community involvement. I was proud to represent the Bank initially on committees and ultimately the Board.”

Through his experience on the KCCF board, Kevin felt it was important for him to start the Kevin and Amy Deardorff Charitable Fund. “After becoming familiar with the mission and objectives of the Foundation, I felt it was the best way for my charitable donation funds to be invested and managed, and provide a vehicle for future giving after my death.” Kevin hopes that future generations will “value the life you’ve been given and respect the rights of others.”
